LONG MOUNTAIN BOOKS
INTRODUCTION TO "JABS" CONTINUES
•“Pyramids” gives a one-two punch to the very wealthy who build public monuments to themselves as the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt did
in building the pyramids.
•“Larry Goes Down” takes a swing at endless talk that sucks the life out of its subject matter, such as
the transformation of food from a means of sustenance and pleasure to a measure of moral value and the conversion of wine from an
enjoyable drink to a competitive hunt to deconstruct its flavor elements.
•“Ahmed Goes Up” grapples with the concept of the afterlife,
in this case the Paradise promised to a suicide bomber.
•“Species Café” takes aim at the solar plexus of business with an unusual
proposal for a new restaurant that is premised on eliminating the moral, ethical and legal barriers that stand in its way to a new
market and beating its competitors.
•“Wolf’s Head Rock” pounds on the midsection of people whose insatiable appetite for more and
more blinds them to the self-destruction that awaits.
•“Lullaby” punches the idea that an overweight person has a flawed character
and lacks good morals, namely, the ability to control appetite, and should be regarded as an inferior person to those whose body weight
and figure are considered best in current mores.
•“Chickens” butts heads with the “Poultry Campus” of a technology business
where chickens (“inventors”) produce eggs (“new ideas”) which the farmer (“business owner”) markets and collects the profits from
himself while paying the inventors “chickenfeed”.
•“Pit Crew” shoves parents with all-consuming careers on the ropes when they claim
to love their family but only have enough time outside of work to arrange for staff to do what parents would otherwise do, much like
Lord and Lady Grantham in Downton Abbey.
